Definition List
- Building Type
- The highest level of data that indicates the type of building the component cost is tied to. It is divided into three different categories: commercial, residential, and multi-family.
- Category
- Indicates the specific area within the building the component refers to. Categories are directly associated with building type and specific components.
- Comments
- Additional information or notes about the data.
- Component
- The basic unit cost being measured throughout the database. Components are tied to categories, and are expanded on by descriptions, tags and energy measures based on their functionality.
- Cost Unit
- A clear identification of the cost basis, e.g. “$/square foot” or “$/unit”.
- Description
- Detailed explanation of the component.
- Energy Measures
- Identifies specific energy attributes applicable to more than one component. Energy measures refer to the component and are more specific than the description.
- Equipment Cost
- The cost of equipment if available separately from the total cost.
- Labor Cost
- The cost of labor if available separately from the total cost.
- Location Type
- The location the cost is sourced from; specifically “National”, “State”, “Region”, “Jurisdiction”.
- Tags
- Encapsulates construction specific details that may be applicable to more than one component. Tags refer to the component and are more specific than the description.
- Total Cost
- The summation of the other cost categories if available.
- Total Materials and Additional Costs
- The cost of the materials if available separately from the total cost.
- SHGC
- Solar Heat Gain Coefficient indicates how well a window blocks heat from sunlight.
- State
- State where the cost data came from.
- U Factor
- U-factor measures how well a product prevents heat from escaping
- VT
- Visible Transmittance refers to the amount of visible light that is transmitted through a window.
- UNIFORMAT II System Cost Codes
- UNIFORMAT II System Cost Codes is a means by which to classify building and site elements. Through a series of divisions and codes, every primary element, the shell, the substructure and so forth, is broken down into its most specific element. For this reason, UNIFORMAT II is used to standardize the different data sources and cost data used in this program.
- UNIFORMAT II- Major Group Elements
- Represents the primary breakdowns of a building project. The major group includes the structural shell, substructure, and interior/exterior services.
- UNIFORMAT II
- Group Elements- Divides the major group elements into specific areas of the building project/site, e.g. foundations, superstructure, and interior construction.
- UNIFORMAT II
- Individual Elements- Individual Elements divide the broad Group Elements into smaller categories, identifying a specific element of the structure/process, e.g. standard foundations and floor construction.
- UNIFORMAT II
- Sub Elements- The most specific of the UNIFORMAT codes, the Sub Element identify individual element specific categories, e.g. wall foundations and column foundations and pile caps.
